WARSAW, Poland -- The following information was released by News from Poland:
Families of victims of accidents are harassed by representatives of compensation companies, who buy their details, among others, from health workers - says a daily newspaper "Gazeta Wyborcza" (Electoral Gazette). The price is 200 PLN per victim's detail and the percentage of the amount of compensation.
Newspaper's interlocutors confirm that some companies pay the police or the emergency room workers 100 PLN for information about the accident. Newspaper also verified that searching for accident victims' details flourishes on the Internet.
The disclosure of personal data to unauthorized persons is a crime punishable by imprisonment up to two years. People who dealt with the "selling" of personal information should report it to the police or the prosecution.
