Fed: Labor welcomes North Korean promise

Labor has welcomed North Korea's promises to shut down its Yongbyon nuclear reactor
.. and to allow inspectors back into the country.

In return for the move North Korea will receive 50 thousand tonnes of oil .. or economic
aid of equal value.

Labor's foreign affairs spokesman ROBERT MCCLELLAND says the country's nuclear ambitions
are a crucial security issue for Australia.

He says the Iraq war's distracted the international community from effectively dealing
with major issues such as North Korea.
