emachines Launches Direct/Internet Channel Signing Four of the Five Largest PC Mail Order Companies, the World's Largest ISP, and Internet Commerce Pioneer.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1998--emachines, Inc.,(tm) the fastest growing supplier of personal computers, today announced the addition of a premiere group of well-known direct marketing and Internet partners for its market-leading eTower personal computers.

Four of the top five direct marketers now partnering with emachines are MicroWarehouse (Warehouse.com), Insight (Insight.com), Creative Computers (PC Mall), and TigerDirect (Tigerdirect.com), a Global Direct Marketing company. They will be selling emachines' products through both their catalog and Internet divisions. This group joins MicroCenter and J&R Music which participated with emachines earlier in the fourth quarter to successfully launch the company's eTower 266 and eTower 300 sub-$500 PCs.

In a ground-breaking move, America Online (AOL), the world's largest Internet service provider, has commenced sales of the eTower products and eView monitors as the first personal computer systems sold through its electronic commerce division.

Cyberian Outpost (Outpost.com), noted for pioneering Internet commerce, rounds out emachines' expanded distribution partners.

During the fourth quarter, emachines has shipped approximately 200,000 eTower personal computers into the retail channel, yielding the company an approximately four percent channel market share and the number five brand position in its first quarter of business. "With today's announcement, 10 of the top 20 PC retailers now deliver our eTower PCs," said Stephen A. Dukker, President and CEO of emachines, Inc. "We believe this to be the largest new PC launch in the history of the retail channel."

National retail partners announced earlier by emachines include Best Buy, Office Depot, MicroCenter, Fry's, Costco, and Staples. Regional partners include Future Shop (Northwest and Canada), BrandsMart USA (Southeast), J&R Music and Nationwide Consumer Electronics (New York).
